Optimized dermatopathologic imaging by a smartphone camera

In this era of evidence-based medicine, dermatopathologic imaging warrants equal emphasis as clinical imaging, not only for the diagnostic confirmation but also for medical records, assessment of evolution and prognosis of the disease, monitoring the treatment response, and scientific publication. Imaging of histopathologic sections can be challenging in terms of lack of proper equipment (trinocular teaching microscope with a dedicated digital camera/adapter for attaching a digital single-lens reflex camera) and lack of operator expertise.
